We harness collective imagination for better tech futures.

RAI Futures is a non-profit providing spaces for civil society and academia to hold meaningful conversations about emerging technologies, envision better futures for society, and propose what we can change today to make tech work for the 99% tomorrow.

Our History and Initiatives

RAI Futures is the new name for the Responsible Artificial Intelligence Network (RAIN), which began to take shape during the Autumn of 2022. Up until late 2025, RAIN was a closed community, held behind a paywall by the Royal Society for the encouragement of the Arts, Commerce and Manufactures. Disappointed by the organisation's leadership, RAIN's co-leads and steering committee decided to open up RAIN to the world.

Our first major community-led initiative was the Tech Futures series written for the Montreal AI Ethics Institute, which came to an end in June 2026. An ongoing initiative is the Crafting Participatory Tech Futures series of workshops, which we are co-delivering with We and AI, the San Diego Supercomputer Centre, and Our AI Collective, with partial sponsorship from Kairoi.
